Joshua Jackson is sharing new details about his relationship with wife Jodie Turner-Smith. The duo have been married since 2019 and have frequently opened up about their affection for each other, in addition to their sweet red carpet appearances. But according to "Dawson's Creek" star Jackson - who is next set to star in a "Fatal Attraction" remake alongside Lizzy Caplan - it seems as though things may not have worked out so seamlessly had the pair crossed paths at a different time in life.
"If we had met five years earlier we probably would have had a torrid affair," he told The Times in an interview, published on April 16. Jackson met his actor and model wife at a charity event in 2018. The duo then said "I do" the following year and welcomed a baby girl in 2020.
Jackson told The Times that when he and Turner-Smith first started dating, they found ways to "spend every moment together and find reasons to be in other cities together at the same time." Eventually, Turner-Smith proposed to him while they were on vacation in Nicaragua. "I don't know if she planned it or if it was a spur-of-the-moment thing," Jackson said, "but out popped a proposal I was not expecting and the organic and instinctive answer was yes."
According to Jackson, his wife seemed to enter his life at the right moment for both of them. ". . . All the rest of this stuff, I was just not ready. I didn't think I ever wanted to get married," the actor said, adding that his perspective changed when he met Turner-Smith. "Partially, it's age. I'm old enough to be able to do this. Partially, it's about finding somebody in the right moment of life."
Over the years, the married couple have frequently paid tribute to each other. "I think it's really beautiful to be with someone who is so supportive and so loving," Turner-Smith told People in 2021. "We're so similar in so many ways. We're like mirrors for each other. And I just really love that human being."
