Look, we know Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) are technically the main focus of "Bridgerton" season two, but Daphne and Simon's baby son is a close runner-up. The Netflix show's second installment offers a few glimpses at the bundle of joy, and it's clear he's taking after his handsome father, played by Regé-Jean Page. Though the tiny tot's face is concealed by a bonnet for some of the newly released episodes, his plump cheeks and dark-brown curly hair are on full display in a few scenes, including one of him attempting to walk with help from his mom, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor); grandma Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell); and great-aunt Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh).
During season two, Daphne casually reveals baby Basset's first name - Augie - which proves they stuck with Simon's request to follow the Bridgerton family tradition of alphabetizing kids' names. Perhaps Augie is a nickname for a longer Regency-era-worthy name like Augustus or Augustin? Meanwhile, in Julia Quinn's "The Duke and I," the first book that inspired the Netflix series, Simon and Daphne's first child is a girl they name Amelia. They then have two more daughters, Belinda and Caroline, before welcoming two sons, David and Edward. This is just one of the many ways the "Bridgerton" TV show differs from the book series so far.
"It was a joy to be a momma."
In an Instagram Live interview with WeDo, Dynevor briefly discussed her experience with filming and acting alongside a baby - well, technically two babies. "Daphne obviously gave birth at the end of season one, so you will meet the bubba in season two, and it's the prettiest bubba I've ever seen in my life," she said, adding that he's meant to be around 6 months old in the season. "We were so lucky, they were so well-behaved. We had two twins, the most gorgeous kids ever, so it was a joy to be a momma. Also, Daphne's just really come into her own. She's a woman. She's got a husband, but she's very independent." Of course, the independence she's referencing is due to the fact that Page's Simon (devastatingly) does not appear in any episodes of season two.
