"Supernatural" Prequel "The Winchesters" Is Looking For a New Home After Being Canceled by The CW

"The Winchesters" is officially on the hunt for a new home. The "Supernatural" prequel has been canceled at The CW after one season, Deadline reported on May 12. However, Warner Bros. has reportedly been shopping around for a new landing spot for the show, so it's not the end of the road yet.

"The Winchesters" stars Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger as "Supernatural" protagonists Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam Winchester (Jared Paladecki)'s parents, John and Mary. It follows them as they fall in love and face off against - you guessed it – supernatural forces in order to save themselves and world. The show is narrated by Ackles, who also serves as executive producer along with his brother Daneel through their company Chaos Machine.

Since news of the show's cancelation broke, Ackles and the cast of "The Winchesters" have been fighting for its future. Ackles has already launched a #SaveTheWinchesters campaign on Twitter that fans have been more than happy to join in on, and at this point, it's clear that he isn't anywhere near giving up. "There's a lot of story to tell here, and there's a huge fan base that is very actively engaged and willing to support it," Ackles told Entertainment Weekly in a May 12 interview.

"I do feel hopeful and I don't know whether that's just the optimistic side of me, which I didn't know existed in this capacity," he continued. "I've been moving more toward a curmudgeon, more toward what we all thought Dean Winchester would dive into when he got older. That's just the Dean in me. But I do have this crazy optimism for this show and I think it largely resides in the energy that we found on set with this cast and this crew. That crazy optimism is one of the reasons why this show made it on air in the first place, and I think it's one of the several reasons why the show should continue somewhere."

"The Winchesters" season one premiered in October 2022. "Supernatural" began in 2005 and ran for 15 seasons, developing cult following in the process and launching more than a few memorable ships.
