It's a modern day love story. Back in 2021, around the time that Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum were first rumored to be dating, the internet did a little sleuthing of its own, finding that Tatum followed a grand total of four Zoë Kravitz fan accounts. Now, for the first time since the fans cracked the code on his relationship via his Instagram following, Tatum is speaking out about what drove him to follow these accounts and what his actual intentions were.
"I have no chill," he admitted in his January cover story with Vanity Fair. "I was just seeing what she was up to! Also, I didn't know anyone would know." But try as he might, these seemingly harmless accounts accidentally escalated his relationship from a place of speculation to one with some basis in fact. The profiles in question, which were later screenshotted and shared by Paper Magazine in August 2021 with the caption "Ok mood," included @zkluv, @zoekravitzinc, @zoekravitzsource, and @kravitzupdate. But these days, Tatum only follows the first two of the original accounts (as well as Kravitz herself, of course).
"Relationships are hard for me," he continued in the recent interview. "In business, I have no real fear of anything being destroyed. But heart things, when it comes to people I love, I have a really hard time. I end up trying too hard, you know?" he said. That means with Kravitz, he said he does want to focus on having a little more chill. "You know when things are kind of just working, you don't want to touch it?" he asked. "Like pottery. If I keep pressing on it, it's going to buck me off. And you're just like, 'Ooh. Maybe I should stop.'"
After all the fan account chaos, Tatum and Kravitz are still going strong, with Kravitz also sharing details about their relationship. She recalled how she sought out Tatum specifically for her film "Pussy Island," because she was interested in seeing him play a darker role. "I felt, even from afar, before I knew him, that he was a feminist and that he wasn't afraid of exploring that darkness, because he knows he's not that," she explained in an Aug. 16 interview with the Wall Street Journal. "That's why I was drawn to him and wanted to meet with him. And I was right." Sparks flew on set, and the two soon began dating.
"Whether it was making me tea or pouring me a drink or going to whip someone into shape or whatever - he really was my protector and it was really wonderful and sweet," Kravitz continued. "He's just a wonderful human."
