Whew! ABC's Queens left viewers with quite a dramatic cliffhanger when its midseason finale aired on Dec. 14. Episode eight picks right back up after the unexpected shooting that left Eric (Taylor Sele) and Brianna (Eve) suffering from gunshot wounds. The two are immediately transported to a hospital where the rest of the queens - Naomi (Brandy), Jill (Naturi Naughton), and Valeria (Nadine Velazquez) - wait to see if they'll both pull through. Luckily, Eric survives just fine, but unfortunately, Brianna is left in critical condition.
During the episode, we find out that Brianna must undergo a risky surgery to retrieve bullet fragments from her spine. Toward the end of the show, we hear her flatline in the middle of her surgery while mourning fans are seen honoring her at a memorial. We're almost left to believe she dies at the end of the episode until we hear the heart monitor pick back up - indicating that she could still very well be alive.

Viewers are hopeful that this doesn't mark the end of Eve's character on the show. Queens creator Zahir McGhee shed light on Brianna's fate, as many are asking what the future looks like for her following Eve's exit from the show. "When Eve told me she was pregnant, we were extremely happy for her," he told Deadline. ". . . The cast and crew wanted to give her the space to enjoy this incredible time. We will continue to build the story as people will see in episode nine and she will remain present in the minds of our characters."
The show leaves viewers in the dark about what happens to Brianna for the majority of episode nine until the very end. Instead of succumbing to her injuries in the hospital, the mother of five is alive and well, and apparently living in Piedras Blancas, Costa Rica with her family. From the looks of it, Professor Sex has left behind her past with the queens to live a better, safer life away from all the chaos. But the question still remains: will Eve's character ever return to the ABC series?
On Nov. 4, it was announced that Eve is taking a hiatus from Queens for maternity leave as she prepares for the birth of her first child. Prior to her temporary leave, the star filmed additional scenes for the show. Her character's open ending from the latest episode suggests that she could possibly return to the series if she chooses to, if/when the show gets renewed for another season.
In her absence, it looks like Remy Ma - who was announced to have a recurring role on Queens - may be filling in the gap for Eve while she's away from the show. There's still no final word on what the future will hold for Brianna, but fingers crossed she gets to make a comeback as a true queen should!
