A young Texas couple is mourning the loss of their son following a horrendous car crash, which also left them severely injured.
On Feb. 19, Justin Mitchell and his pregnant wife Jessica Mitchell were on their way to Sulphur Springs Hospital to welcome their baby boy when Justin, 23, swerved to avoid running into a fallen branch, KLTV 7 reported.
The car then flipped and landed in a nearby ditch.
Justin and Jessica, 20, were left trapped for at least an hour until emergency responders arrived on the scene, KLTV 7 reported.
After arriving at the hospital, Jessica had an emergency C-section, but the infant, whom they named Sebastian, did not survive.
“The baby didn’t make it. They needed to do a C-section to assess Jessica’s injuries,” Jessica’s mother Brenda Mize told KLTV 7.
Jessica underwent surgery after suffering a broken neck and other injuries while Justin sustained a broken pelvis and lower back. Justin underwent surgery on Feb. 21.
Both Jessica and Justin were able to spend some time with the baby before they were moved to I.C.U., KLTV 7 reported.
“He looked like his mom and had his daddy’s nose,” Mize told the news station. “We did get to hold him for a little while and spend time with him.”
On Monday, Jessica shared an update on her husband’s condition on Facebook and revealed that they’ve been reunited at the hospital.

“Thank y’all again for the continued prayers! Today they were able to get Justin into a recliner and wheeled him into my room to see me for a few minutes (this being the first time in 6 days we have gotten to see each other in person),” Jessica wrote.
“They also are looking into having us discharged from the hospital on the 27th but we will be having to spend at least a week in rehab.”
“Also Justin’s friend Nolan and his parents when to the wreck site and were walking and found Justin’s wedding ring that had fallen off during the wreck! God continues to watch over us and show us he has us in his hands every day.”
A GoFundMe page has been created in hopes of raising funds to cover Jessica and Justin’s medical bills.
