Vanessa Bryant Honors Late Husband Kobe's Birthday Amid Ongoing Trial: "Miss You So Much"

It's been over two years since basketball legend Kobe Bryant was tragically killed in a helicopter accident, and his wife Vanessa Bryant is continuing to celebrate him. Aug. 23, 2022 marked what would have been the former Los Angeles Laker's 44th birthday, and Vanessa posted a selfie with Kobe to honor the occasion.

"Happy birthday, baby! I love you and miss you so much! #44 ❤️ @kobebryant," she wrote on Instagram. Many of Vanessa's celebrity followers chimed in with well wishes for the late NBA player in the comment section, including Lisa Leslie, who wrote, "Happy Birthday King Kobe." Added Khloé Kardashian, "Happy birthday ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I love you V!!!"

Kobe's birthday comes as Vanessa, who the athlete married in 2001, is currently engaged in a court case against Los Angeles County. She is suing the county for emotional distress and mental anguish after emergency personnel allegedly shared graphic images of Kobe and the couple's daughter Gianna from their fatal January 2020 helicopter crash. Last week, Vanessa took the stand for the first time in the case, nd opened up about when she initially learned of the images being shared, unauthorized. "I broke down and cried and I just wanted to run down the block and scream," Bryant testified, according to People. "I can't escape my body. I can't escape what I feel."

In an interview with People in March 2021, Vanessa said that support for and from her daughters Natalia, Bianka, and Capri, has helped her through the devastation of losing Kobe and Gianna. She said at the time, "I can't say that I'm strong every day [and] I can't say that there aren't days when I feel like I can't survive to the next. My girls help me smile through the pain. They give me strength."

Elizabeth Olsen Portrays Candy Montgomery in HBO Max's True-Crime Series "Love & Death"

Forty years after Candy Montgomery killed her friend Betty Gore with an axe, the infamous true-crime story will be revisited in yet another limited series. HBO Max's "Love & Death" stars Elizabeth Olsen as the Texas housewife in a story inspired by John Bloom and Jim Atkinson's 1984 book titled "Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs," as well as a collection of articles from Texas Monthly ("Love & Death in Silicon Prairie, Part I & II").

Though specific plot details about "Love & Death" are scarce, the series is based on the events that led to Gore's untimely death, which resulted in Montgomery's arrest and a trial that later acquitted her of the murder. On Oct. 14, 2021, HBO Max released first-look photos of Olsen transformed into Montgomery, though a trailer has yet to be released. The actor's portrayal comes just after Jessica Biel took on the same role in Hulu's "Candy," which premiered on May 9.

In addition to Olsen, "Love & Death" also stars folks like Jesse Plemons, Tom Pelphrey, and Lily Rabe. The limited series is expected to arrive sometime next year. Read ahead for everything else we know about "Love & Death."

"House of the Dragon" Already Featured 2 Heartbreaking Deaths

It wouldn't be a "Game of Thrones" spinoff if there weren't a lot of heartbreaking and/or bloody deaths, and episode one of "House of the Dragon" immediately delivered on that front. The new series, based on George R. R. Martin's "Fire and Blood," follows the Targaryen family in the middle of a succession crisis and in the lead up for a civil war that will eventually be known as the Dance of Dragons.

Ahead of the show's premiere, showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik told POPSUGAR that the series wouldn't have gratuitous sex or violence. "It's 'Game of Thrones.' There is sex and violence as part of the story," Condal said. "The particular way that we've approached it in this time is making sure that whenever you're going to have any kind of . . . sex or violence on screen, that there's a compelling story reason for it, and that it's a story that needs to be told. It's not being done gratuitously or to titillate or anything like that."

In episode one, there are some deaths of minor characters, including those attacked by the City Watch led by Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and many knights of the knights who compete in the joust held by the king. But so far, it's just two major characters who have passed away, with many more likely to follow.

Ahead, these are all the deaths in "House of the Dragon" season one.

Sign up for HBO Max now to watch "House of the Dragon."
