The Real-Life Zola Stepped Out For the Film's LA Premiere - After All, the Movie Is About Her
The cast of Zola stepped out in full force for the LA screening of the highly anticipated film on Tuesday. Director Janicza Bravo, Riley Keough, Colman Domingo, Dave Franco, and Nelcie Souffrant all hit the red carpet together, and they were even joined by the real-life Zola herself, A'Ziah King. Also in attendance were Jodie Turner-Smith, Isis King, Arlo Parks, and several other stars.
Noticeably absent, though, was Taylour Paige, as she's currently in Bulgaria. However, she did take a moment to celebrate the film's release on Twitter. "I love you everyone! 11:37AM in Bulgaria with happy tender tears that our movie Zola is officially live!!!" she tweeted. "Whoever is to receive it, enjoy it, absorb it, love it might it find you. So appreciative of it all. Life is crazy."
Zola is based on a now-infamous 2015 Twitter thread and follows the story of Aziah, a former waitress at Hooters, and a sex worker named Jessica, who embarked on a wild road trip to Florida that involved stripping, prostitution, drugs, and murder. The movie first premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and officially hit theaters on June 30.

Bill Cosby's Sexual Assault Conviction Is Overturned 3 Years After His Sentencing
Bill Cosby will be released from prison after the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court overturned his sexual assault conviction on June 30. This comes three years after the disgraced comedian was found guilty of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand, and sentenced to three to 10 years at a state prison just outside Philadelphia.
The court came to its decision after Cosby's defense challenged the conviction on two fronts. First, they opposed the trial judge's decision to allow five other accusers to testify their respective accounts when the jury was deadlocked. The defense also alleged the prosecution had previously promised Cosby they would not charge him after doubting the "likelihood of a successful prosecution." This agreement made it so that Cosby incriminated himself in a subsequent civil lawsuit. That testimony would go on to be presented during the criminal trial.
"It would be antithetical to, and corrosive of, the integrity and functionality of the criminal justice system that we strive to maintain," the opinion stated. "For these reasons, Cosby's convictions and judgment of sentence are vacated, and he is discharged."
Despite the wave of assault accusations publicly lobbed at Cosby in 2015, the statute of limitations ran out for many alleged victims. In fact, prosecutors had mere days to arrest Cosby in the Constand case before the 12-year statute expired. Constand accused Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her in 2004 when she was a basketball coach at Temple University, where Cosby had been an involved alumnus. Cosby's conviction coincided with the rise of the #MeToo movement, which saw many high-profile public figures exposed for harassment and abuse.
It's currently not known if the prosecution will appeal the decision or try Cosby again.

Michael Gandolfini Fully Embodies His Late Father, James Gandolfini, in Sopranos Prequel
We couldn't have imagined a better way to honor the late James Gandolfini and his iconic role of Tony Soprano than by having his son, Michael Gandolfini, portray a younger version in the upcoming Sopranos prequel film. Set around the 1967 Newark riots, The Many Saints of Newark sees how Tony Soprano eventually became the crime boss we know, love, and fear. As a touching nod to the big boss himself, the trailer begins with a narration by James, saying, "When I was a kid, guys like me were brought up to follow codes." Exactly what codes he's referring to are still to be seen.
From the looks of the trailer, it'll be interesting to see how the Soprano family functioned before Tony was the de facto leader. The ensemble cast features younger versions of familiar original series characters, with Alessandro Nivola as Richard "Dickie" Moltisanti, Jon Bernthal as Giovanni "Johnny Boy" Soprano, Corey Stoll as Junior Soprano, Billy Magnussen as Paulie "Walnuts" Gualtieri, John Magaro as Silvio Dante, and Vera Farmiga as Tony's mother, Livia Soprano. Joining them in undisclosed roles are Michela de Rossi, Leslie Odom Jr., and Ray Liotta. The Many Saints of Newark premieres in theaters and on HBO Max on Oct. 1.

Jamie Lynn Spears Breaks Her Silence on Sister Britney's Harrowing Conservatorship Hearing
Jamie Lynn Spears is breaking her silence following her sister Britney Spears's June 23 conservatorship court hearing. In a series of videos on her Instagram Stories on Monday, the 30-year-old actress explained the reason she's never publicly discussed Britney's conservatorship, saying, "I feel like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, that it wasn't my place and it wasn't the right thing to do."
"I think it's extremely clear since the day I was born, I've only loved, adored, and supported my sister," Jamie continued. "I don't care if she wants to run away to a rainforest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has so many times before, because I have nothing to gain or lose, either way. This situation does not affect me either way because I am only her sister who is only concerned about her happiness."
"This situation does not affect me either way because I am only her sister who is only concerned about her happiness."
Jamie then opened up about how she's personally supported Britney. "I have made a very conscious choice to only participate in her life as her sister, as an aunt to those boys," she said, referencing Britney's sons, Sean and Jayden Federline. "Maybe I didn't support the way the public may have liked me to with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you I have supported my sister long before there was a hashtag and I'll support her long after . . . My sister knows I love and support her. That's the only person I owe anything to. I am not my family; I am my own person; I am speaking for myself."
She concluded her statement by expressing how "proud" she is of Britney for speaking out and "using her voice." "I am so proud of her for requesting new counsel, like I told her to do many years ago," she said. "I support that 100 percent, because I support my sister. I love my sister, always have and always will, as long as she's happy."
Britney has been under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears, since 2008. In her harrowing testimony, Britney detailed how she was forced to take medication and how she is unable to have another baby or get married again. "Not only did my family not do a godd*mn thing, my dad was all for it," Britney said. "I've lied and told the whole world I'm OK and I'm happy." Britney has not yet filed a motion to end the conservatorship, but it seems like she will be doing so soon. "I will abide by whatever decision she makes in that regard," Britney's lawyer Samuel Ingham III stated. Vivian Thoreen, who represents Jamie, then responded to Britney's allegations with a brief statement. "He is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain," Vivian said. "Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much."
