Lena Dunham is the latest celebrity to open up about her experience with COVID-19 and to hear her tell it, people should really be taking this virus far more seriously than we have been.
Along with a selfie (above) of her rocking a lace-patterned face mask, the Girls star explained via Instagram on Friday that she privately battled the novel coronavirus over a 21-day period — though thankfully she has since recovered.

Dunham shared the details of her terrifying experience in a series of written photo messages captioned, “My Covid Story.”
She began:
“I’ve been reluctant to share this, having written and rewritten it anxiously. I don’t want to unnecessarily add my voice to a noise landscape on such a challenging topic, as an unfathomable number of people have lost their lives to COVID-19 – a phrase we didn’t even know in January. But seeing the carelessness with which so many in the United States are treating social distancing, people jogging without masks and parties on Instagram, I feel compelled to be honest about the impact this illness has had on me, in the hopes that personal stories allow us to see the humanity in what can feel like abstract situations.”
The HBO star, who is already immunocompromised with endometriosis and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, said that people need to wake up and understand that the “coronavirus kills people.” She expressed that if she were not already hyper-aware of her own health struggles, she would not have been able to see the warning signs that something was off and physically handle the severity of her pain.
Describing the symptoms she began experiencing in mid-March, Lena said it all started with “achy joints” which were quickly followed by “an impossible, crushing fatigue” and a fever of 102 degrees before things really went downhill:
“Suddenly my body simply … revolted. The nerves in my feet burned and muscles wouldn’t seem to do their job. My hands were numb. I couldn’t tolerate loud noises. I couldn’t sleep but I couldn’t wake up. I lost my sense of taste and smell. A hacking cough, like a metronome keeping time. Inability to breathe after simple tasks like getting a glass of water. Random red rashes. A pounding headache right between my eyes. It felt like I was a complex machine that had been unplugged and then had my wires rerouted into the wrong inputs.”
Wow. That sounds incredibly awful. Despite suffering through this in isolation for nearly three weeks, the 34-year-old was eventually able to be treated by a doctor without being hospitalized.
She said she tested negative for the virus “after a month,” but similar to actress Anna Camp who also recently contracted COVID-19, her symptoms persisted. In addition to swollen hands and feet, and unwavering fatigue, Lena was confronted with several challenging new ailments:
“The doctor determined I was suffering from clinical adrenal insufficiency – my pituitary gland had almost entirely ceased function – as well as ‘status migrainosis’ (in human terms, a migraine that just won’t stop.)”
The Emmy nominee said she didn’t have any of those issues before her battle with the virus and wasn’t given any concrete idea of what to expect moving forward. While acknowledging that doctors are still learning new information about its long-term health consequences on people, she blasted the privileged mindset of those who aren’t taking the public health crisis seriously.
After hearing about this particular bout, it seems irresponsible to continue taking gambles with your health, right?
She concluded by asking us all to selflessly do our part in containing the spread, writing:
“This is the biggest deal in our country, and in the world right now. When you take the appropriate measures to protect yourself and your neighbors, you save them a world of pain. You save them a journey that nobody deserves to take, with a million outcomes we don’t yet understand, and a million people with varying resources and varying levels of support who are not ready for this tidal wave to take them. It is critical we are all sensible and compassionate at this time… because, there is truly no other choice.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. This virus does not discriminate and everyone is at risk of going through this, or worse. Learn from her! Wishing her a speedy full recovery and lots of comfort at home during this time.

With all the news that has piled up over the past couple weeks, you’ll be forgiven if you forgot that tidbit about Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel welcoming a secret baby.
On the other hand, you may have been wondering all this time if the news was true. After all, following the DailyMail.com report, the couple have remained quiet, and we’ve received no confirmation as to the accuracy of the story. Until now, that is!

The inside scoop comes from JT’s pal, R&B crooner Brian McKnight.
In an interview with HollywoodLife, the musician spoke about the possibility of new tunes from the Man in the Woods crooner. He said:
“Having kids and having his family, I think [Justin] took some time to focus on those things because those things are very important. I think if he’s going to do music, he’s going to make sure that that’s secure, and then he’ll bring us into his music.”
Then, the artist and producer dropped the most telling tidbit of all:
“And being inspired! He just had a new baby. I think that’s going to be really inspiring for him and he’ll have some new music based on that, I’m sure.”
Oops!
There you have it folks!
We still don’t know much about the new addition to the Timberlake family, but another source shared that the baby was born “earlier this summer.”
What is keeping them from posting a brief announcement of the birth themselves, we wonder? Maybe Jessica would rather avoid any and all press right now after JT’s cheating scandal headlines last year??
Anyway, congratulations to Justin and Jessica, whether they want to stay totally private or not!

I know we still have a few more days to go until Work It premieres on Netflix, but after watching the star-studded trailer, I immediately began wondering about the cast's love lives. Is Sabrina Carpenter currently dating anyone? What about Jordan Fisher - is he single? Chances are, you probably had those same thoughts once you laid eyes on the gorgeous selection of stars that were chosen for the dance film, so I went ahead and did the stalking research for you. Ahead, see each cast members relationship status, and I apologize in advance if I've crushed any of your future wedding plans.
Whether you're into Marco and Elle or you're Team Noah all the way, you have to admit Elle and Marco's epic routine during that big Dance Dance Revolution contest is a standout scene from The Kissing Booth 2. Their smooth dance moves combined with their intense chemistry definitely had me pressing rewind more than once, and luckily, Joey King just posted a full version of the epic moment on her IGTV on Friday.
Fans were not only shook that the iconic DDR scene was shot in front of a green screen and not an arcade like they'd imagined, but also excited to relive the adorable moment in a stripped down setting. I mean, who would say no to more Elle and Marco? "This is the full version that we shot of the final arcade scene with Marco and Elle," King wrote in the caption. "We danced the entire day which was killer on my shin splints but my dance partner made it all worth it. This was a really exhausting day but more fun than anything else. I miss this a lot 🥺❤️." Check out the full video below to fall in love with Elle and Marco's romance friendship all over again.

Donald Trump continues to be the pettiest president in history.
On Thursday, several major news stations were broadcasting former President Barack Obama’s powerful eulogy at the funeral service of civil rights leader John Lewis when, suddenly, Trump called reporters into the White House for a surprise event with the family of murdered Fort Hood soldier, Vanessa Guillen.
Now, we should note that Vanessa’s killing absolutely needs to be addressed. The fact that the Department of Justice is now involved in the case is a great step forward — however, many political commentators couldn’t completely commend Trump, seeing as his presser felt more like a stunt to steal Obama’s spotlight.

Let’s think about it: the press availability was not previously on POTUS’ schedule, and it just so happened to coincide with Obama’s remarks. Both events were ongoing. But most importantly: Trump is a known narcissist who is obsessed with making himself look better than his predecessor.
Here are just a few reactions on Twitter:
“Amazing coincidence that Trump calls reporters in for a not-on-the-public-schedule press opportunity JUST as Barack Obama began speaking at John Lewis’s funeral.”
“@CNN @MSNBC @ABC @CBS @nbc @PBS please don’t air Trump’s presser live while Obama is giving a eulogy… If he makes any news, you can report it later or do a screen scrawl”
“He’s trying – and will fail – to step on John Lewis funeral service. Trump is a whiny toddler. Has no compassion or empathy. Willful negligence in Covid response.”
“How petty is Donny Trump? He called an unscheduled press conference at the same time as Obama’s Lewis eulogy, in hopes of stealing coverage. How angry will his tweets be later? None of the big newschannels fell for it.”
Meanwhile, Barack made a not-so-subtle dig at Trump during the eulogy.

Referencing 45’s dumb tweet from earlier in the day in which he suggested the election should be delayed due to potential mail-in ballot fraud — something Trump does NOT have the legal authority to do — Obama remarked:
“…even as we sit here, there are those in power are doing their darnedest to discourage people from voting — by closing polling locations, and targeting minorities and students with restrictive ID laws, and attacking our voting rights with surgical precision, even undermining the postal service in the run-up to an election that is going to be dependent on mailed-in ballots so people don’t get sick.”
He noted these were exactly the kinds of attacks on democracy Lewis “devoted his time on this Earth fighting.”

Do we sense a new era dawning for Billie Eilish?
On Thursday, the teen prodigy dropped her latest single my future, an ode to self-love and personal growth. Though the song begins mellow and downbeat, the drop at the 1:45 mark gives the song a fun and funky twist that may signify a shift in Eilish’s music — by the end this is definitely the most uplifting and hopeful tune in the singer’s oeuvre!

The song is accompanied by a whimsical animated video (an ultra-safe social distancing music video technique that’s also been employed by the likes of Dua Lipa and Little Mix.) The Grammy winner wrote my future with her brother and trusted collaborator Finneas, who also happens to be turning 23 on its release day.
The pop star shared the backstory behind the single in an email to fans, writing:
“We wrote this at the very beginning of quarantine. It’s a song that’s really, really personal and special to me. When we wrote this song, it was exactly where my head was at — hopeful, excited and a crazy amount of self-reflection and self-growth. But recently it has also taken on a lot of new meaning in the context of what’s happening in the world now. I hope you can all find meaning in it for yourselves.”
Ch-ch-check out the new tune (above)!

Tamar Braxton is on the mend and sharing her story.
Earlier this month, the singer was found unresponsive in her room at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Los Angeles following a suicide attempt. Thankfully, she was able to get help in time, and is now on the road to recovery. On Thursday, Braxton broke her silence about the incident and opened up about her mental health struggle.

The reality star began her statement with gratitude, writing:
“First and foremost, Thank you. Thank you to each and every individual who has prayed for me, thought of me, sent me their love and has showered me with their support.”
The former The Real co-host then dove right into being “real” about her “darkest” days:
“In this present moment, it is my only responsibility to be real with myself and to be real with the ones who truly love me and care for my healing. I have without fail, shared with you my brightest days, and I know that sharing with you what has been my darkest will be the light for any man or woman who is feeling the same defeat I felt just only a week ago.”
She wrote about the universal desire to experience freedom, security and happiness and how her career in television obstructed those goals.
And then she went after WE tv.
Implicating the powers that be at the network which hosts her reality shows, she wrote:
“Over the past 11 years there were promises made to protect and portray my story, with the authenticity and honesty I gave. I was betrayed, taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid. I wrote a letter over 2 months ago asking to be freed from what I believed was excessive and unfair. I explained in personal detail the demise I was experiencing. My cry for help went totally ignored. However the demands persisted. It was my spirit, and my soul that was tainted the most. There are a few things I count on most to be, a good mother, a good daughter, a good partner, a good sister, and a good person. Who I was, begun to mean little to nothing, because it would only be how I was portrayed on television that would matter. It was witnessing the slow death of the woman I became, that discouraged my will to fight. I felt like I was no longer living, I was existing for the purpose of a corporations gain and ratings, and that killed me.”
The 43-year-old went on to affirm that “Mental illness is real,” while pledging to provide aid and raise awareness for mental health issues.
She also spoke in defense of other reality stars of color who she says are being exploited:
“It was only God’s grace and his mercy on my attempt to end my pain and my life that I am here to utilize my voice. It is only your prayers that have pushed me to rise above my own personal demise, pushed me to not only continue my fight for the freedom of my own thoughts, mind and soul, but to also use my voice and experience to be an ally for every black and brown person who has suffered from the continued exploitation of reality television. Reality TV personalities have no union, no coat of protection, no formal representation that protects our labor, our rights, or our voices. They promise us opportunity but produce exploitation, which has only developed a poor portrayal of black people in show business.”
Damn!
The Love and War singer closed her statement by saying she would be taking time to seek professional treatment and “grow through [her] pain.” She expressed love for her son Logan, whom she said she “forgot in [her] moment of distress and desperation.” She concluded:
“My rise will not be in vain. I will make it my mission to establish the initiative that fights for ethical business practices in reality TV, fights for the ownership of our businesses, promote growth and evolution, of our stories, and gives us 100% equity in our freedom. My love for my support system and everyone who chose to love me when I no longer loved myself, is infinite and I am forever grateful. I pray you will stand with me and be courageous enough to share your own truth.”

What a truly powerful statement.
These were some of the strongest criticisms of reality TV we’ve ever heard, especially from someone inside the industry. We wonder if other reality stars will rally around Tamar’s story… could this call to action open the floodgates for others to share their experiences? Only time will tell.

Take a deep breath and relax because Billie Eilish released the music video for her new song "My Future," and the moody artwork is a whole new kind of soothing. The video - which premiered on Eilish's YouTube channel on July 30 - shows her walking through a rainy animated world as she contemplates her life and plans for the future. The sunshine glittering through the trees is reminiscent of the most beautifully drawn cartoons, creating a nice parallel between Eilish's amazing singing voice and the stunning artwork.
As Eilish's animated self strolls through the forest and lounges under the star-speckled night sky, flowers begin to grow and the branches of trees move like vines to lift her up towards the sun, reflecting the underlying message of hope in her calming lyrics. Watch the full video and listen to Eilish's peaceful new song here.
Jessica Simpson revealed a great many personal truths in her memoir Open Book earlier this year, but probably none required more bravery than opening up about the sexual abuse she suffered as a child.
She wrote:
“[It happened] when I shared a bed with the daughter of a family friend. It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable… I lay between them, fiercely protecting my sister from this monster. I didn’t want her to feel as disgusting as I felt… I never let her near Ashlee, but I also never screamed or told her to stop.”
Well she didn’t face her past only it when it came time to write the book. She did it for real first.

On Wednesday the Dukes of Hazzard star told Katherine Schwarzenegger on her Gift Of Forgiveness podcast on Wednesday she “confronted” the woman about it some time ago:
“I would say about eight years ago I confronted her. I went to her and I just said, ‘I know you know what was going on and I know that you were being abused,’ ’cause she was being abused by an older guy. And basically, and he was always there at the house as well — he never touched me, but he would abuse her and then she would come to me and do the stuff to me — and so in so many ways I felt bad for her and I was allowing the abuse to happen.”
Wow. What did she say when she faced her like that??
“I told her in the moment, ‘I know that you have a lot to deal with’ and I told her that I think she should probably talk to someone and find a way to understand those moments and to forgive those moments and to heal from those moments. And [I said], ‘I just want you to know that I forgive you and I don’t really care to be around you that much or ever again, but I do want you to know that, like, I know what happened between us and I’m not gonna live in denial about it.'”
Wow. And we thought writing about it in a book was brave. This is… something else. We are just so impressed with her strength!
So what finally spurred her to seek this confrontation? She explained it was in her “soul-searching” period after her divorce from Nick Lachey:
“I was just in that place where I was celibate, and I was, like, on this journey to explore myself, and I knew that I couldn’t move forward without letting her know that. I wasn’t just gonna leave it unsaid. I left it unsaid for far too long, but I knew that if I was honest with her, that it would clear my conscience.”
Jessica didn’t just make that gesture of closure, she also sent an olive branch of a sort. She revealed:
“And I even sent her the book and I told her that I hope it brings healing.”
That is really big of her.
Seriously, bravo to Jessica for this. We are just so impressed with her courage!

This is such a tragic — and horrifying — story.
On Monday, Julie Dimperio Holowach, the former head of accessories brand Kipling, was killed by a great white shark off the coast of Maine.
The 63-year-old was swimming with her daughter when the shark attacked; while her daughter was able to swim back to shore safely, eyewitnesses told The Boston Globe they saw Holowach “flailing her arms” and being pulled under.

According to CNN, kayakers were able to retrieve Holowach’s body and return it to shore, which Maine Department of Marine Resources Commissioner Patrick Keliher called “nothing more than miraculous.” Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders.
Holowach and her family owned property in Harpswell, Maine, where they would spend several months every summer and were well regarded in the community, CNN reported. The incident marks the first known fatal shark attack in the history of the state. In fact, in 200 years only one other unprovoked attack has ever been recorded, back in 2010.
Experts were able to identify the shark as a great white by a fragment of tooth recovered from the body, Keliher shared. They believe the shark mistook Holowach for its usual prey, likely a seal, possibly due to her wearing a wetsuit.
DNR is working in conjunction with Massachusetts Department of Marine Fisheries Senior Scientist Gregory Skomal, who will be reviewing data of tagged sharks to try and identify the culprit.
Marine Patrol Major Rob Beal said that “the community is really at a tough juncture now,” adding:
“It is tragic but also an isolated incident we are trying to work our way through that the state’s never seen.”
In a move that will sound familiar to Jaws fans, the beach is NOT being closed in the wake of the attack. Instead, officials have cautioned beachgoers to steer clear of seals and other shark prey like schools of fish. Beal promised “increased patrolling” and urged anyone who spots a shark to call the local marine patrol officer.

Holowach’s passing comes just two weeks after another shark-related incident went viral online. An Australian woman who was attacked by an unidentified marine creature was caught on camera yelling, “I still love sharks!” as she was wheeled away from the scene on a stretcher. (Her injuries were inconsistent with a shark attack and likely came from a smaller animal, per CBS news.) The clip was widely shared on Twitter and soon became a meme:
“I still love sharks! Sharks are beautiful!” A 29-year-old woman, who was reportedly attacked by a shark off Cairns in North Queensland this morning, appears in good spirits as she's taken to hospital for treatment. https://t.co/NsO1ZoCbiI #7NEWS pic.twitter.com/6BC0VbqdnW

This has already been a scary summer without adding shark attacks on top of it. Now it’s TERRIFYING.

Someone at Netflix is putting in the hours to craft a top-of-the-line video compilation of shirtless scenes from Outer Banks, and for that, fans are grateful. Kooks and Pogues can agree that the actors in the series are a sight for sore eyes, whether they're rocking half-buttoned shirts and surfboards or not. You know how the saying goes: no shoes, no shirt, absolutely zero problems. As we patiently wait for the show's second season to film, let this video tide you over. We can't wait to return to beach with Chase Stokes (John B), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), Rudy Pankow (JJ), and the rest of the OBX crew!
"I really don't know a young person who doesn't care right now, especially in this moment that we're living in," Yara Shahidi said in conversation with Karamo Brown during the Citizen Verizon Assembly, a virtual event that took place on July 28 to discuss business and social change. "I don't think we're dealing with an apathetic generation." A youth activist herself, Yara offered important advice for fellow young people trying to enact change in the current climate while taking care of their mental health.
"What are those action steps we can give young people to feel as though they have agency?"
The Grown-ish actress stressed the importance of staying informed without feeling too overwhelmed, whatever your preferred tools and resources might be. For Yara, it's as simple as keeping the NPR One app playing in the background to keep herself up to date. "We've been inundated with information about how chaotic our world is," she said. "We've been inundated with information about how flawed our world is, and it can feel very overwhelming. So what are those action steps we can give young people to feel as though they have agency?"
Activist burnout is very real, and as the actress explained, youth activists have to practice self-care and reduce stress to be in this "for the long run." "It's not about burnout right now, and there is a need for self-care and not going too far too fast." Watch the full clip above for Yara's inspiring advice.
